Walking in Chiado I – Casa Havanesa: The house of smokers

If you are a smoker stop at Casa Havanesa. This was their first and original shop that opened in 1864 as a bank, where the owner used to offer a cigar to his best clients. Later the bank changed the name and this became an historic shop referred by some of the great Portuguese writers in their master pieces, from Eça de Queiroz to Guerra Junqueiro.

Smoking is bad for our health and is not fashionable as it used to be 100 years ago, but this shop is definitely part of Lisbon’s history.
